Geologic (or “natural”) hydrogen is produced in the subsurface by naturally-occurring water-rock reactions. Geologic hydrogen production boasts several advantages including low carbon intensity, low water consumption, small land footprint, low energy intensity, and no critical minerals. Geologic hydrogen seeps have been found all over the world, signaling its potential to be a critical source of clean hydrogen production. The geologic hydrogen industry is in its early days but is accelerating quickly.
Geologic hydrogen is a primary energy resource.
